DRAFT: REVIEW WITH A LAWYER before publishing or relying on this text.
Why fingerprints are used
Fingerprints are used to confirm that the student who is recorded as present is the student who attended, and to stop one person signing in for another.
Where matching happens
Fingerprint matching is performed by the fingerprint terminal at the classroom door.
What the platform stores
Where the platform stores a fingerprint template for a student, it is stored encrypted. Attendance records store the outcome of a scan, not an image of a fingerprint.
Who can see it
Staff only see the data their role allows. Teachers see their own classes and students see their own records.
Consent and notice
Schools must inform students and guardians before enrolling fingerprints and must obtain any consent required by law.
Retention and deletion
Fingerprint data should be removed when a student leaves. Your school can request deletion at any time.
