Why biometric attendance suits Ghanaian schools
Most school offices in Ghana still rely on paper registers. They are cheap, but they have three problems.
Signing for a friend
A pen cannot tell who is holding it. Proxy attendance is common because it is easy and rarely caught.
Hours spent totalling
At the end of the term someone has to count marks across many sheets. Mistakes are normal and nobody has the time to check.
No early warning
By the time a pattern of absence is visible on paper, the term is over.
What a fingerprint changes
When a student checks in at a terminal, the scan is tied to one person. The record is created at that moment, so totals and reports are available straight away, and a student who is falling behind can be spotted early.
A fingerprint does not replace teachers knowing their students. It removes the paperwork and the guesswork around it.
